





The Quail & Lion Protome
This Miletos gold coin is a replica of sterling silver coin minted approximately 2575 years ago (550-494 BCE) from Miletus a Greek city in Asia Minor on the west coast of Turkey. - "Called the birthplace of the modern world. Home of Thales - "the father of philosophy,” Miletus was the intellectual and commercial capital of the Greek world in the century before Athens rose to prominence."
The Lion Protome means it depicts only the head and or forelegs of the lion, on the obverse is a tiny Quail with two dots presumably denoting the coins worth. This is an example of the smallest of ancient coins.
